Maintained contact with all Arlington-area recreational sports leagues; collected schedules, results, standings and any other agate and formatted for recreational agate page. Supervised high school sports agate in absence of normal supervisor: maintained schedules, time cards and hours log of part-time clerks. Proofread and formatted high school agate both in Dewar system and on the page using Quark Xpress; proofed final agate pages before sending.

Wrote a variety of stories for the Northeast Tarrant bureau of the Star-Telegram. Attended games and kept running score and statistics on key plays and players; interviewed coaches, players, fans, parents and sometimes even umpires for post-game reaction; produced game story and sidebar (if necessary) on deadline. Worked closely with editor on developing feature and enterprise stories written on tight deadline. Maintained regular communication with readers and coaches to develop follow-up stories and weekly notebook ideas. Provided all scores and statistics to agate desk; occasionally provided different versions of story for run in other circulation zones. Maintained record of stories for monthly expense report.

Was responsible for compiling information from over 300 high schools in the Arlington, Northeast Tarrant, and Fort Worth area. Answered multi-line phone system, routed calls, took messages, and handled basic customer service for the high school sports desk. Handled daily, weekly and monthly statistics, both from local schools and AP sources. Assisted editors with short "roundup" items by gathering game information from coaches and writing brief stories. Formatted high school agate into correct coding; organized and made needed cuts to agate, and proofread final agate on page.
